Product description
Dupen Lumbar Tech mattress: firm, with no memory foam and with lumbar reinforcement on both sides
El Lumbar Tech is Dupen's mattress for those who sleep better on a firm base and don't want that sinking feeling. Its distinguishing feature is in its name: it has a lumbar reinforcement band at kidney height, and not on one side but en las dos. That's why it can be flipped over and still have the reinforcement exactly where it should be.
The other factory decision that defines it is what it no contains: it has no memory foam. Instead, the padding on both panels is built with Airdream® high-density, and hypoallergenic fibre. You notice it in two ways: the mattress doesn't retain as much heat and doesn't “swallow” you — it springs back into shape as soon as you turn over. And in the centre, the Pocket Tech Box: pocket springs with 5 firmness zones and perimeter reinforcement, held in place above and below by two layers of stabilising felt that stop the padding from shifting over the springs.
How it's made, layer by layer
This is the composition Dupen states in the model's official technical datasheet, and what each layer gives you when you lie down:
| Zone | Materials | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Top panel | Stretch fabric high-density Airdream® Hypoallergenic fibre high-density Airdream® Lumbar reinforcement | High-density foam and fibre padding, with no memory foam: soft to the touch but without deep cradling, and with less heat retention. The lumbar reinforcement band is built into the top panel itself, at kidney height. |
| Core | Stabilising felt Pocket Tech Box: pocket springs, 5 firmness zones and perimeter reinforcement Stabilising felt | Each spring sits in its own pocket and gives way on its own: movement from the other side of the bed doesn't reach you. The 5 zones make the mattress respond differently under the shoulders, lower back and legs. The perimeter reinforcement stops the edge from sagging when you sit on it. And the two felts are what keep the padding in place year after year. |
| Bottom panel | Lumbar reinforcement high-density Airdream® Hypoallergenic fibre high-density Airdream® Stretch fabric | Identical to the one above, lumbar reinforcement included. That's why the Lumbar Tech can be turned over without losing anything. |

The details you can't see
- Firm firmness. Dupen classes it as firm, not medium. That's a fact, not an opinion: if you're after a soft mattress, this isn't it.
- What the lumbar reinforcement is designed for. According to the manufacturer, the aim of the lumbar support is to keep the spine in a neutral alignment while you sleep, distributing body weight more evenly. It is not a medical device and does not replace professional advice; it is a design decision of the mattress.
- Double-sided mattress with six embroidered handles. It's used on both sides, and the handles are what makes turning it manageable between two people.
- Breathable fabric with anti-dust-mite treatment, padded sides and corner reinforcement.
- Firmness-stabilising frame around the whole perimeter: it's what lets you use the full width of the mattress, right to the edge.
- Manufacturer's warranty of up to 5 years. It's worth knowing how it works: Dupen covers 2 full years and, from the third year onwards, the additional part is prorated at 33,3 % a year on the invoice amount. These are the manufacturer's official terms, and we'd rather you knew them before buying, not after.
- Spanish manufacturer. Dupen has been making mattresses in Spain since 1966. The Lumbar Tech is made to order in the size you choose.
Is this the mattress you're looking for?
It's a good fit if you sleep better on a firm surface, if the sinking-in feeling bothers you, if you're someone who gets hot with memory foam, or if you want a mattress with extra lumbar support that you can also turn over.
It's not for you if you're after cradling and a hugging feeling — that's what the memory foam range is for — or if you're light and need the mattress to give so your shoulder sinks in.
