Dupen Memory Plus Mattress: memory foam with graphene, firm, and a CoolAir® 3D base that breathes

The Memory Plus is the best-selling memory foam mattress in our catalogue, and there's a simple reason for it: it gives you the cradling feel of memory foam without its most commonly criticised flaw. It's firm, not soft. The body sinks into the surface, but the mattress doesn't give way underneath.

The other design decision that defines it is that it's a single-sided mattress. It isn't turned over. The good side, the padded one, always goes on top; and the underside is CoolAir® 3D fabric, a technical fabric designed precisely for the side that rests on the bed base, which is where moisture builds up. For many people this is an advantage: a 28 cm mattress is heavy, and not having to turn it over twice a year is welcome.

How it's made, layer by layer

This is the composition Dupen states in the model's official technical datasheet, and what each layer gives you when you lie down:

Zone

Materials

What it gives you

Top panel

Grand Luxury stretch fabric
High-density graphene memory foam
Hypoallergenic fibre
high-density Airdream®

The fabric is stretchy and very soft to the touch. Underneath, the graphene memory foam —memory foam with graphene— is the contact layer: it cradles the body and spreads the pressure. The fibre gives it softness, and the Airdream® acts as a buffer between the padding and the core.

Core

High-density memory foam
High-density Airdream® core

This is where the firmness comes from. The high-density memory foam contours to you but still holds you up, and the Airdream® core is the block that bears the weight and stops you sinking in. This combination is what makes the Memory Plus feel firm rather than soft.

Bottom panel

CoolAir® 3D fabric

The side that goes against the bed base. It isn't padded because you don't sleep on it: it's a three-dimensional technical fabric that lets air through and helps stop moisture getting trapped between the mattress and the base.

The details you can't see

  • Single-sided mattress: it isn't turned over. What is worth doing is rotating it head to foot a couple of times a year so the padding wears evenly.

  • Six embroidered horizontal handles for moving it… but careful: they only come on sizes wider than 120 cm. On an 80, 90 or 105, the mattress doesn't have them, because it's light and they're not needed.

  • Padded sides, with reinforcement on the sides and corners, and a firmness-stabilising frame around the whole perimeter: this is what stops the edge from sagging and lets you use the full width.

  • Breathable fabrics with anti-dust-mite treatment.

  • Manufacturer's warranty of up to 5 years. It's worth knowing how it works: Dupen covers 2 full years and, from the third year onwards, the additional part is prorated at 33,3 % a year on the invoice amount. These are the manufacturer's official terms, and we'd rather you knew them before buying, not after.

  • Spanish manufacturer. Dupen has been making mattresses in Spain since 1966. The Memory Plus is made to order in the size you choose.

Is this the mattress you're looking for?

It's a good fit if you want memory foam but firm — the feeling that your body sinks in but doesn't get swallowed up — if you don't want to be turning a 28 cm mattress over twice a year, or if you're after Dupen's most proven model: it's the best-seller of the whole range.

It's not for you if you're after a soft, enveloping mattress, or if you want to be able to use both sides: this one only has one.
